Don’t Mess with The King

Posted by Andrew on April 30, 2008

You’d think the Washington Wizards would’ve learned their lesson by now to simply leave The King alone. Don’t talk smack to LeBron James, don’t say he’s “overrated,” and certainly don’t encourage your fans to do the same, because he’ll make you look foolish in doing so. What are the Wizards thinking? Obviously they’re not getting inside his head, this kid doesn’t get rattled, and he doesn’t get intimidated, he just takes continues to take his game to the next level when properly motivated.

Once Stevenson decided to go upside LeBron’s head with that cheapshot in Game 4, The King simply flipped the switch, took the game over after hitting that 29-foot 3-ball, and led the Cavs on a 13-0 run, which ended up being the turning point in the game. Why are they still messing with this guy, don’t they realize they’re only embarrassing themselves? The truth of the matter is that the more they continue to talk, the more ridiculous they look. Never has a team has less reason to talk smack, yet run more of it than the Wizards. If it isn’t DeShawn Stevenson continuing to take verbal jabs at the best player in basketball, its Gilbert Arenas not backing off his comments that they’ll come back to win this series and prove everybody in the media wrong. Then, of course, Brendan Haywood couldn’t let those two hog all the spotlight, so he had to get into it as well.

“Awww,” Haywood said in a whiny, high-pitched voice to mock James. “They are trying to hurt me.”

“I mean, come on man, this is the playoffs,” Haywood said following Monday’s practice. “He wears 23, he wants to be Michael Jordan, I can respect that, he’s a great player. You saw what Mike went through. Mike got fouled way worse than this. No one is trying to hurt him, everybody is trying to play basketball, trying to play tough. Play basketball and leave it alone.”

So, if I understand that correctly, Brendan Haywood, is calling LeBron soft? Brendan Haywood? Last time I checked, this so-called soft guy was making the Wizards defense look like the Denver Nuggets, en route to a 3-1 series lead. That crybaby is just killing them, and he’s embarrassing Haywood and his team for the third year in a row. He owns them in the playoffs, and and as Pedro Martinez would say, he’s they’re daddy — and he’ll finish them of again this year. Rather than talk, the Wizards might want to focus their time on either playing the game on the same level as the LeBron and the Cavaliers, or simply start planning their summer vacations, which, by the way, will likely be starting real soon.

It’s obvious that the Wizards were going to keep running their mouths, despite the fact that the series is pretty much over. The reason why is because if they didn’t, they would have conceeded the fact that LeBron’s play has in fact shut them up. Sure, they look like a bunch if fools, but at least he hasn’t taken away their pride — and that’s the message they’re trying to insinuate.

  2. Aaron Says:

LeBron will torch anybody who disrespects him. He has that killer instinct that separate the men from the boys.

  3. ajohn135 Says:

The Wizards have lost 8 straight in Cleveland, including the last five in the playoffs, so I don’t see this thing going beyond Game 5. Agent Zero isn’t himself, the crowd will be going wild, and LeBron is playing “off the hook,” as the kids like to say.

  4. James Says:

Drew, I thought the Wiz were going to be starting their vacation last night? I’m sure this thing will go seven, because the crowd in DC will be rocking for Game 6.

  5. Austin Says:

Most people thought the Wizards were a better team without Agent Zero, and they proved it last night. He’ll have a fun time trying to actually get a big money deal this summer.

As for Bron, he may actually be overrated. He should’ve taken the Wizard out in four or five games. Now this thing is going seven.

  6. ajohn135 Says:

James; Yeah, I think the Wizards are going down, even if it is in seven games. The Wizards finally showed up, but their fans shouldn’t get too excited because their season is coming to an end very soon.

As for LeBron, no chance is he overrated. What is with you guys? I’ll bet you think MJ was overrated, too.

  7. Aaron Says:

James, what happened to your Wizards? Getting blown out by 20 in DC isn’t the way they wanted to end their season, that’s for sure.

  8. ajohn135 Says:

Gilbert Arenas is going to be the next T-Mac, a guy who can;t seem to win a first round playoff series. They only won Game 5 because they finally shut their mouths and played ball.

  9. Chris Says:

If The Celtics can survive the Hawks, LeBron against the Celtics will bring back memories of MJ at the Garden. That will be one series to keep an eye on.

  10. ajohn135 Says:

Yeah, if the Celtics can survive the Hawks, LeBron would be next to torment them. I can’t think of anything better than watching LeBron drop 60 in Boston, except maybe having D-Will have a career game against the Lakers in LA.

  11. Austin Says:

Looks as if the Wizards should take a few pointers from the Celtics as to how you’re supposed to guard LeBron. Though he’s still not playing as bad as some people are claiming he is. He almost had a triple-double in Game 1 for crying out loud.

  12. Austin Says:

Looks like the C’s have found a way to take LBJ out of the game, but we’ll see if that continues tonight in Cleveland. I seriously doubt it will.

  13. Jason Says:

It looks as if LeBron has figured this Celtic defense out, but doing it back in Boston will certainly be a challenge. If any part of his squad shows signs of life, the Celtics could be in loads of trouble.
